- Welcome to the Eleanor Roosevelt High School Parent Resource Center. My name is Russ Taylor and I am the school based Parent Liaison. The Parent Liaison position is relatively new in the Prince Georges County schools. My goal is to improve parental involvement in the school by improving communication and collaboration between school staff and families. Research has proven that there is a direct correlation between parental involvement and student achievement.
Some
ways
that
parents
can
become
involved
and
remain
involved
are
by
joining
the
Parent
Teacher
Student
Association
(PTSA);
assisting
with
school
clubs
and
organizations;
volunteering
for
parents
assisting
teachers
(PAT
program);
and
chaperoning
school
events
to
name
a
few.
I
also
encourage
parents
to
periodically
visit
their
child's
classes
(classroom
observation)
and
to
attend
all
parent/teacher
conferences.
As
the
Parent
Liaison,
you
can
count
on
me
to
be
your
advocate
for
assuring
that
your
child
reaches
his/her
optimum
potential
while
in
high
school.
Below
are
just
a
few
ways
in
which
I
will
support
your
and
your
family
so
that
your
child
is
successful
in
high
school.
1.
Work
with
parents
to
help
improve
the
understanding
of
school
policies,
procedures
and
educational
requirements.
2.
Develop
a
process
to
facilitate
effective
and
frequent
communication
between
school
staff
and
families
regarding
the
needs
and
concerns
of
families
and
schools.
3.
Maintain
a
Parent/Community
Resource
Room
(currently
located
adjacent
to
Admin
II).
4.
Host
parent
meetings/workshops
to
inform
parents
about
critical
issues
that
positively
or
negatively
affect
their
child's
performance
in
school.
