Hi Ms. Cunningham,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to u. The powers that be are taking a long time to set up our DSL. Anyway college has been good so far. All my classes are interesting with the exception of art history (the reading is more interesting and informative than the actual class).  In my drawing class our first assignment was to draw 200 freehand line on a 24x18 pad. Four of the lines, one horizontal, one vertical, and two diagonals in opposing directions, had to be perfect. It took me 2 1/2 hours just to get those four perfect. In 3D design we have to make a vessel out of balsa wood in which sits an egg then we will proceed to drop said vessel off the second story balcony of our main building's interior hall. Enjoying the people and the city of Philadelphia. The biggest difference from high school is that no one talks when they're not supposed to. When the teacher is talking u could hear a pin drop.

Of course, classes are absolutely crazy. I'm taking Human Biology, Chemistry, Nursing, Philosophy and Coloquium, a class required for all freshmen. Besides work, studying and sleep, I barely have time for anything else. I am currently considering on renting my own cubicle in the library since I spend so much time over there... I've already had my first test in biology, and that was quite an interesting experience. I'm proud to say that I survived it. And now I took a break from studying for chem. We have a test tomorrow on 5 chapters. Thankfully I had good preparation in high school, so I'm not completely overwhelmed....
High school doesn't even remotely compare to classes in high school. Not only are you expected to be a responsible adult and go to classes, but you are also expected to make the right choices, since temptations are everywhere. There is definitely a lot of work and if I didn't have my color coded schedule, I would be lost half of the time! It is much more fast paced and the information that we learn is integrated very well into every day life. We are all expected to read the assigned pages at home and then discuss and relate everything in class.
Definitely tell your seniors to enjoy high school while they can, because college will turn their world upside down!

Georgetown is quite challenging, and I must admit that it's quite different, in both good and bad ways. My roommate is actually one of my friends from Roosevelt, so I at least have a little bit of sanity. I'm not taking any arts - I'm majoring in pre-med and nursing and minoring in cognitive sciences, which leaves me room for little else. BUT, no worries, I'm putting my skills to good use! I'm working for the Neuroscience Department at the Laboratory of Integrative Neuroscience and Cognition. I'm currently the webmaster for two sites (I made one from scratch) and one I have to "revamp" and am currently in the process of designing their research posters for future conventions. I'm still waiting for a space on the Georgetown server, but hopefully it will be up in a couple of weeks......

Hi Ms. Cunningham,

I promised I would let you know how college is going so here it goes !  It's hard to believe, but I am actually half way through my semester.  Classes are going great and I really love my schedule.  All my classes are really fun (except for math..which is really boring) and I only have to go to school two days a week.  Definitely something you can't do in high school!  I am taking four classes this semester: History, English, Psychology, and Math.

All the work can get tedious at times, but I am trying to change my high school ways of being unorganized and a HUGE procrastinator.  Kids can't get away with the stuff that they do in high school in college.  A lot of the professors expect you to have your work on time and won't take any excuses.  Unfortunately, you can't come in the next day with a yellow slip signed by your parents. hahaha

I would tell all your students to enjoy high school while they are there.  In most classes in college, you do not have a one on one relationship with your professors and you are just another face in a crowd.  Also, responsibility plays a important role in making sure you pass your classes.  With no one checking up on you in college, it is the student's responsibility to attend class and to make sure to keep up on reading assignments etc.
For my math class, I do not have math homework, but I am assigned practice problems.  It's really easy not to do them at all, however I have to do them, to make sure that I understand what will be taught in class the next day.

Another thing that I hate is that for my english class and history classes, the major grades we have are from 5 essays/ tests.   We never get any homework or extra credit, so there is no way to bring up a grade if you fail a test.   In the end, once you get accustomed to college life, it's a great experience with a lot of independence!
P.S. Especially to all the Seniors, enjoy your year because senior year goes by soooo quickly!
